Lead Operator – Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant

MC Technical Recruitment is currently looking to recruit an experienced Lead Operator for a leading Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility based in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.

This role will involve leading a team of three Plant Operators, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant day-to-day running of the AD plant, optimising biological performance, and acting as the first point of contact for operational issues.

As a Lead Operator, you will be responsible for:

  • Operating the AD plant safely and efficiently to maximise biogas production, monitoring performance via SCADA and process control systems
  • Monitoring and optimising key biological process parameters, including pH, alkalinity, volatile fatty acids (VFA), ammonia, gas production, methane concentration and H?S levels
  • Coordinating daily feedstock deliveries, verifying incoming materials against acceptance criteria, and managing feedstock storage, blending and consistent feeding regimes
  • Leading and coordinating a team of three Plant Operators, including task allocation, coaching, shift handovers and performance management
  • Promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with Permit to Work systems, and carrying out risk assessments, incident reporting and housekeeping standards
  • Other duties as required

To be considered for this role you should have:

  • Proven experience operating an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant, ideally in a Lead Operator or similar supervisory role
  • Strong SCADA operation skills, along with feedstock and digestate management experience
  • Team leadership and scheduling experience, with the ability to motivate and coach an operations team
  • Working knowledge of ABP compliance and maintenance support, including use of a CMMS
  • A strong commitment to health & safety, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills
