MC Technical Recruitment is currently looking to recruit an Operations Manager for an Energy from Waste Power Station based in County Durham.
As the Operations Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the Energy Recovery Facility (ERF), leading a dedicated team to deliver operational excellence. Your key focus will be embedding safety, predictability, reliability, & availability into all decision-making & day-to-day activities. You will foster a strong culture of ownership & accountability, promoting a safety-first mindset across every aspect of the operation.
As Plant Manager you will be responsible for:
- Leading & developing a large operational team of technical and frontline staff, ensuring strong performance, engagement, and clear succession planning
- Championing a robust safety, health, environmental & quality culture, ensuring full compliance with all internal systems, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ensuring full compliance with Environmental Permit conditions & regulatory reporting requirements, including accurate and timely submissions to the Environment Agency
- Overseeing day-to-day plant operations to maximise performance, reliability & availability, including monitoring of key process parameters & maintenance of operational standards
- Managing operational resources including consumables, fuel flows, residues & waste streams to ensure safe, efficient & continuous plant operation
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives, identifying & delivering projects with clear cost-benefit justification & measurable performance improvements
To be considered for this role you should have:
- A solid technical background within a continuous process or industrial environment
- Proven ability to lead & motivate teams, with experience operating at a senior level
- A supportive leadership style, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, & developing direct reports
- Strong negotiation & influencing capabilities, with the confidence to engage key stakeholders
- Well-developed commercial awareness & the ability to balance operational and financial priorities
- Good understanding of environmental compliance requirements
Experience within an Energy-from-Waste facility or broader power generation sector would be highly advantageous
- A recognised health & safety qualification such as NEBOSH
