Mechanical Technician

c£39,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Newport, Isle of Wight (12-hour rotating shifts)

MC Technical Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician to join the team at a Waste Treatment Plant in Newport, Isle of Wight. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-skilled team supporting the day-to-day maintenance of plant equipment and systems. The role includes both planned and reactive maintenance across a range of technologies and machinery.

As the Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for:

• Supporting maintenance of services, plant, and apparatus across the facility
• Performing proactive mechanical maintenance activities
• Conducting inspections, PPM checks, and reporting
• Diagnosing and resolving technical faults in motors, gearboxes, and systems
• Reading OEM manuals and working from technical drawings
• Contributing to a strong safety culture and operating within permit-to-work systems
• Working collaboratively with the wider operations team
• Working as part of a 12-hour rotating shift pattern – days & nights (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am)
• Other duties as required

To be considered for this role, you should have:

• HNC or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
• Strong hands-on experience with mechanical systems and equipment
• Background in Energy from Waste, Process, or Power sectors
• Good understanding of condition monitoring and proactive maintenance strategies
• Experience with steam turbines, hydraulic systems, or gear-driven machinery
• Familiarity with CMMS systems (training can be provided)
