MC Technical Recruitment is currently looking to recruit a Field Electrical & Mechanical Technician to join a growing business within the biogas upgrading and renewable energy sector. This is a full-time, permanent, field-based role with up to 75% UK-wide travel and occasional travel to Europe.

This role will involve carrying out planned routine maintenance, breakdown diagnosis, calibration and commissioning of biogas upgrading plant assets, control systems and hazardous area installations. Operating in potentially explosive atmospheres, you will ensure all electrical infrastructure, instrumentation and auxiliary equipment comply strictly with BS 7671, DSEAR and ATEX standards to optimise process safety and plant performance.

As a Field Electrical & Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out CompEx inspections of explosion-protected equipment to BS EN 60079-17
  • Calibrating and loop-testing process and gas detection instruments (including H2S and CH4 monitors)
  • Fault-finding on PLCs (primarily Siemens S7 / TIA Portal), Profibus/Profinet networks, VFDs and telemetry systems
  • Performing FAT and SAT for site upgrades and modifications
  • Working to RAMS, LOTO and Permit to Work systems in line with company SOPs and UK safety legislation
  • Maintaining inspection logs, technical reports and calibration records via the CMMS
  • Participating in a 24/7 on-call rota
  • Other duties as required

To be considered for this role you should have:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation/Maintenance (or equivalent, e.g. City & Guilds 2357/2365) or an HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • BS 7671 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations
  • CompEx Ex01–Ex04 (Gas & Vapours) – highly preferred, although candidates with strong industrial electrical experience and a willingness to attain CompEx will be considered
  • A minimum of 3–5 years’ industrial electrical maintenance experience, ideally within renewable energy, Anaerobic Digestion (AD), biogas upgrading, CHP gas engines, petrochemical or power generation
  • A strong electrical/instrumentation bias (approx. 75/25 electrical to mechanical), with a solid understanding of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, blowers and valves
  • Proficiency in reading complex LV electrical schematics, P&IDs and loop drawings
  • A professional, customer-facing attitude, the ability to work independently or in small field crews, and clear written report-writing skills
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the UK/EU
